As the “General of the Poor” recalled on Thursday the sector vice president Politics, Security and Peace, G/J Vladimir Padrino López, to the Panamanian leader, Omar Torrijos, after an act in commemoration for the 96th anniversary of his birth.
“It is an act right full of symbolism to honor the birth of this great revolutionary of the Great Homeland, the general of the poor,” said Padrino López.
“As of today, and by order of the citizen Nicolás Maduro Moros, constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, our commander in chief, a sculpture by Omar Torrijos will rest eternally in this glorious alma mater, where Bolivarian Youth is taught Loving the homeland, ”said Padrino López, according to the video shared by Maduro.
Last January, Maduro requested a prayer for the former Panamanian state of the Panaman Threats of the US President, Donald Trump, to become this interoceanic route.
“What guarantee of self -determination could the Latin American region have if we stay submissive to imperialism?” He said when referring to the imperialist claims of the Trump government to snatch the Panama Canal from Panama to his people.
Guyana Esequiba and the Panama Canal
Padrino López said that it is a geographical incoherence the fact to pretend to snatch Venezuela La Guyana Esaquiba and the exit to the Atlantic and that the Caribbean zone “becomes a sea under American hegemonism”, thereby illustrating the recent controversy of the president Donald Trump to want to recover the Panama Canal because they supposedly gave it to the Chinese authorities.
“Unfortunately, not all the peoples of the region have leaders who represent the interests of the majorities, as if Torrijos did; And, on the contrary, they have behaved in a traitorous way and seem pathetic flatterers of the White House tenants, ”he said. Padrino López caught the attention so that the Caribbean region maintains its autonomy and the geographical interests of Panama are defended, as well as those of Venezuela.
During the act from the patio of honor of the Army Military Academy, in Fuerte Tiuna, Caracas, a bust was unveiled in honor of the Panamanian leader and a floral offering was delivered.
It should be remembered that Omar Torrijos was born on February 13, 1929 and died tragically on July 31, 1981. He was a military leader of Panama, as well as Commander of the National Guard becoming Lieutenant Colonel (1966), Colonel (1968) and General of Brigade (1969).
In October 1968 he participated in a coup d’etat of the National Guard that overthrew President Arnulfo Arias, and gradually emerged as the leader of the New Military Board with the title of Head of Government and Supreme Leader of the Panamanian Revolution.
This February 13 thousands of Panamanians reminded Omar Torrijos who led the fight for the sovereignty of the Panama Canal, after the signing of Torrijos-Carter treaties, on September 7, 1977.

“The legacy of this distinguished Panamanian remains alive. The combatant people fighting for sovereignty remembers and emulates it. Long live the Great Revolutionary of Panama! ”Maduro said on social networks.
