He Premier Gustavo Adrianzén He said he was not surprised by the collapse of the bridge of Chancay. His statements caught attention to the magnitude of the fact that ended the lives of two people and left 41 injured. In addition, after listening to it, it is necessary to ask ourselves in what state are the road structures of the country.
Speaking to the press, the head of the PCM said that there is no record that the Norvial concessionaire has warned the need to remove the bridge before its collapse.
Adrianzén stressed that the bridge was over 60 years old and that intense rains probably contributed to collapse. Although the government has a bridge replacement program, Adrianzén suggested that this could not be done due to time and resources limitations.
The prime minister mentioned that “he is not surprised that this has happened” due to the age of the bridge. And the maintenance of the structure?
The chief of the Cabinet remarked that the concessionaire is responsible for maintenance, but the investigations will determine whether or not this was done.
In the event that the investigation determines that Norvial did not comply with its obligations, measures will be taken. However, Adrianzén stressed that the withdrawal of the concession will not be carried out unless the investigations justify it.
Questioned about the importance of the port of Chancay and the road infrastructure, Adrianzén defended the government’s actions, mentioning that they have been working on the renewal of bridges and other projects to improve the infrastructure of the country.
Norvial regretted what happened this morning and, in a statement, did not specify details about the maintenance of the structure.
