President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva participated, this Friday (14), the dissemination of investments of the federal government in Belém, where will take place the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). The event was in the São Brás market. Earlier, the president visited the works of Parque da Cidade, a space that will host the program of COP30, in November.
“A lot of people thought it was crazy to COP in Pará. I came here to do an inspection. And I am pleased with the things I saw here, for a very simple reason, it is not easy to make a decision to make an event of the magnitude of a COP in the state of Pará or any state other than São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro ”Said the president.
According to Lula, “Pará is an important state in this country” and investments must be reversed in improvements to the population. “By stubbornness, I decided that the state of Pará would make the COP of life. Especially because if we don’t do that, only the same states develop. And why not start developing others?
“It’s not money thrown away. The amount of channels being done, drainage, basic plumbing, the amount of new facilities, is something that will stay for the people of Pará, will be to the people of Belém, ”he added.
In Parque da Cidade will be 500,000 square meters, as well as a landscape area of 50 hectares, to receive the 60,000 people from delegations from 193 countries during the conference. R $ 980 million were invested in the equipment and 74% of the works are already completed.
The resources to prepare Belém as a host city of COP30, estimated at R $ 5 billion, are from the Budget, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and Itaipu Binacional. There are more than 30 works in progress in urban development, mobility and sanitation.
