For 14 states, the year 2024 ended with the lowest level of unemployment already recorded by the Historical Series of the National Continuous Household Sample Survey (PNAD), which began in 2012. The data was released on Friday (14) by the do Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The behavior of these states resembles that of Brazil as a whole, which recorded the average rate of 6.6% unemploymentin 2024, as already released by IBGE.
The record of low occupancy level was reached in the following locations:
Rio Grande do Norte (8.5%)
Amazonas (8.4%)
Amapá (8.3%)
Alagoas (7.6%)
Maranhão (7.1%)
Ceará (7%)
Acre (6.4%)
São Paulo (6.2%)
Tocantins (5.5%)
Minas Gerais (5%)
Espírito Santo (3.9%)
Mato Grosso do Sul (3.9%)
Santa Catarina (2.9%)
Mato Grosso (2.6%)
IBGE research investigates behavior in the labor market for people 14 years or older and takes into account all forms of occupation, whether or without a signed, temporary and own portfolio, for example. 211,000 households are visited in all states and the Federal District.
The highest average rates of 2024 were pointed out in Bahia (10.8%), Pernambuco (10.8%) and Federal District (9.6%).
Regions
By regions, the North (7%), Southeast (6.4%), South (4.2%) and Midwest (5.4%) have reached the lower vacancy levels since the beginning of the historical series.
In the Northeast, the rate was 9%, the lowest since 2015, but above the minimum record of 8.6%, reached in 2014.
Informality
IBGE revealed that throughout last year, the informality rate in the country was 39%of the population occupied, being the highest averages in Pará (58.1%), Piauí, (56.6%) and Maranhão (55, 3%). The smallest were located in Santa Catarina (26.4%), Federal District (29.6%) and São Paulo (31.1%).
