Finance Minister Fernando Haddad defended on Thursday (13) caution to the measures announced by the President of the United States, Donald Trump. 
Today, Trump announced the application of reciprocity tariffs Against any country that imposes taxes against US imports, being the latest tariff offensive against allies and enemies in the country and which, according to the White House, will strengthen US economic and national security. Trump also made threats to BRICS, a group of which Brazil is part.
In an interview, Haddad said Brazil does not need to fear the measures of the US government, as trade balance between the two countries is surplus for the United States, in the sectors of goods and services.
The minister said that the Brazilian government will not speak “to any signage”, will wait to see the “which is concrete, effective” and evaluate “how will end this story”.
“The balance is surplus for the United States, considered goods and services. In the case of goods, it is balanced, practically balanced. There is no reason for us to fear. There is no partner who is importing a lot from Brazil and exporting little, is On the contrary. We will cautiously evaluate the set of measures that can be announced, meanwhile the economic area is taking stock of our business relations so that reciprocity is a principle observed by the two countries, “he said.
Tariffs
Tariffs will not take effect on Thursday, but may begin to be imposed in weeks, while the US government’s commercial and economic team studies bilateral tariffs and trade relations, a White House authority said in a teleconference.
Howard Lutnick, chosen by Trump for secretary of commerce, said the government will analyze country to the country. According to Lutnick, these studies will be completed until April 1st.
Trump, who campaigned, promising to reduce consumer prices, said it may occur a short term, as a result of the measures: “Tariffs are great,” he claimed.
