The Panama Government studies the “possibilities” of transferring Venezuelan migrants to the Colombian city of Cúcuta, bordering Venezuela, after they arrive in an “reverse flow” from the north to the south of the contine USA, the Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino reported Thursday, EFE says.
This week the Panamanian authorities announced that they were analyzing the possible ways to transfer Venezuelan migrants directly to their country or through a third party, since there are no diplomatic relations between the two nations.
One of these options would be to transport Venezuelan migrants to Cúcuta, on the border between Colombia and Venezuela, so that from there they can cross Venezuela
“We are rehearsing possibilities so that now with that reverse flow we can fly from Panama to Cúcuta, which is Colombian territory, and establish traffic from there, as appropriate and can, towards Venezuela,” Mulino said.
It should be noted that the president of Panama did not refer to any agreement or contact established with the Colombian president Gustavo Petro, who is responsible for establishing the transit of those migrants that he proposes to leave in Cúcuta to Venezuela.
The Panamanian President informed that migrants will be transferred to “a kind of shelter in San Vicente”, in the province of Darién, bordering Colombia, and where there is an air track that will be used in repatriation flights.
The hardening of immigration policy in the United States begins to generate what Panamanian authorities call an “inverse migratory flow”, fed by deported persons from the United States or migrants who renounce or postpone their trip to the North American country for fear of not being able to enter.
After detecting this phenomenon, the authorities of Panama and Costa Rica agreed on Tuesday, February 11, transfer to migrants who return from the north of the continent to the south to shelters at the borders, and then be returned to their countries of origin.
On February 2, Mulino proposed to the US Secretary of State for Repatriation flights.
Plan Vuelta a la Patria
Last Monday, February 10, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, stressed that the return plan to the homeland has been resumed to return to almost 190 nationals from the American city of El Paso, Texas.
“Venezuela is the only country in the world that has a plan to bring with dignity, respect and love to migrants who left the country for the sanctions,” said the head of state on Monday during broadcast 70 of the fourth season of the MADURO + PROGRAM.
Maduro explained that the return plan to the country was unfortunately sabotaged by the previous United States Administration (USA) with a persecution against the convious airline, and that it had the complicity of several presidents of South America.
He explained that this plan returned to the country to thousands of Venezuelans from Peru, Chile and other countries in the south of the continent. “Today, the conversations with Ambassador Richad Grenell, the US special envoy has been resumed.
It also specified that two Conviasa aircraft were sent to El Paso, Texas, to return to almost 190 nationals.
“In the conversations held between the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the government of the United States of America, in the person of President Trump’s special envoy, Ambassador Richard Grenelll, Venezuela always made it clear that any transfer of Venezuelans should be done with Absolute respect for their dignity and human rights; Consequently, we formulate the proposal that we would have Venezuelan airplanes to search and transfer the migrants who return to their homeland today. It is the irrevocable position of our government to address the condition of our migrants and their prerogatives enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ”says part of a Official statement issued by the National Government.
