The members of the Electoral Committee of the National University of Piura (UNP) proposed that the complementary elections for the position of rector of this Superior House of Studies be on April 29 and 30.

This was agreed at the meeting held by the members of the aforementioned committee presided by Nestor Manuel Castillo Burgos.
Unanimously, the Electoral Committee agreed to “convene complementary elections for the position of Rector for April 29 and 30, 2025”, after the resignation accepted by the University Assembly of the sentenced Santos Leandro Montaño Roalcaba.
In addition, they agreed to designate Raúl Orlando Castro Quintana to prepare the regulations of the complementary elections.
Today at 11 in the morning it will be the new session of the University Electoral Committee for the approval of the Complementary Elections Regulation, the schedule and the formats established by Law.
Likewise, it is planned for today to be held the University Council session for the approval of the aforementioned electoral schedule.
Recall that Santos Montaño, on December 30, 2024 presented its renunciation letter and on January 22, the UNP University Assembly accepted it. Given this, they emptied it from the position.
In addition, the judge of the Court of Justice of Piura, Christian Azabache Vidal, imposed a sentence condemned to the former UNP, who was recorded receiving a coima of ten thousand soles by a provider of said house of studies.
The university ex -authority was sentenced by the commission of the crime of improper passive bribery, to a imprisonment of three years and four months, suspended in its execution, after accepting its responsibility in this process through the figure of the early termination .
