About 1 million students can now renegotiate debts with the Student Financing Fund (FIES). According to the Ministry of Education, the total number of defaulters, that is, with more than 90 days of delay in payment, already reaches 51.7% of students with funding and amounts to R$ 9 billion in unpaid installments.
For students who have debts that are 90 to 360 days overdue, the discount is 12% on the outstanding balance, exemption from interest and fines and payment in up to 150 installments.
For delinquency of more than 360 days, the discount reaches 86.5% on the outstanding balance. If the student is enrolled in CadÚnico or is a beneficiary of Emergency Aid, the discount will be 92%. The balance of this debt may be paid in up to ten installments.

Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal, Fies’ financial agents, are responsible for debt renegotiation. In order to have the name removed from the restrictive credit registers, the beneficiaries must pay the entry value at the time of renegotiation, corresponding to the first installment.
The minimum amount of the installment is R$ 200. The operation can be carried out in full through the service channels provided by the financial agents.

About 800 thousand students with a contract made by Caixa Econômica are in default, with an average debt of R$ 35 thousand. These students will be able to renegotiate their contracts 100% digitally. The interested party should consult the site from the box to verify whether or not it can ask for renegotiation, according to the established rules.
After confirming the framework in the rules and simulating the renegotiation, the interested parties will generate the slip for payment of the first installment or, if they choose to settle in one go, of the single installment.

At Banco do Brasil, more than 500,000 students will be able to renegotiate installments of Fies in arrears, digitally, in the bank’s application.

Through the solution, the student will be able to verify if he is part of the target audience, the options available for debt settlement or installment, the discounts granted, as well as the entry values and other installments.
