Santo Domingo.-Recommendation. The former president Leonel Fernández spoke about the recent information that the country has reservations of approximately 100 million tons of rare earths, highlighting the importance of these 17 chemical elements, essential for sectors such as technology, energy, safety and vehicles electric
The ex -president urged the Dominican government to adopt a series of measures that guarantee transparency and adequate management of this resource, since the recent visit of the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, highlighted the relevance of this resource in the country , generating a growing debate about its management, exploitation and the benefits it could contribute to the nation.
Among Fernández’s suggestions is: Transparency in resource management, so he asks for the greatest transparency before public opinion on the studies, exploration and exploitation of rare earths in the country.
In addition, provide all information about national and international entities to which contracts and concessions related to this strategic resource are conferred.
It recommends incorporating the participation of other national entities in the Board of Directors of the Dominican Mining Company, SA (EMIDOM), in order to add national experts, strengthen transparency and defense of the national interest.
Ask that the National Geological Service, the Military Cartographic Institute (ICM), the Academy of Sciences, representatives of higher education institutions with geology schools, the Mining Chamber, as well as representatives of the Catholic Church and the Evangelical.
