In the early hours of Monday, February 10, 2024, an altercation between fans of Deportivo Cali and a group of residents in Ibagué left the death of Yojan G., a young barrista of 23 years, a native of Cali.
The case took an unexpected turn when Michael M., a citizen who was at the scene, told his version of the facts.
In an interview with Caracol Radio and in a publication made by news Caracol, the man said he acted in self -defense, because, according to him, he and his family were in serious danger.
“They attacked us with stones, machetes and entered my house”
Martínez said that everything happened around 1:00 am, when a group of approximately 150 barristas from Deportivo Cali broke into its neighborhood, generating disturbances.
According to their version, the fans destroyed properties, burned a motorcycle and tried to set up their vehicle.

“I didn’t see what I shot him”
Martínez said that he does not belong to any bar or has a violent history. «I am not a fan of anything, I have no tattoos, I do not consume. I am a working man, I created my company and is the only thing I do«He emphasized.
Amid the confrontation, he says he felt his life and that of his threatened family, so he made the decision to act the firearm. «When I saw that they were turning on the car, I reacted, but I didn’t see what I shot«.
Subsequently, according to his story, the barristas threatened him. «They said ‘I threw the gun and we didn’t kill him’, that’s why I threw it. They left and then returned. They told us’ we leave, we kill him and leave‘”
Police intervention
To control the situation, units of the Unit of Dialogue and Maintenance of the Order (UNDMO) of the National Police arrived at the scene and managed to disperse the barristas.
The authorities continue to investigate the case to clarify what happened and determine the responsibilities in this tragic episode of violence.
