47% of this financing was given to companies, 22% to people through consumer credit and 19% in housing credit, according to data from the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) to December.
BBVA Mexico and Banorte were the two banks that lent more money with more than 1 billion pesos each.
Due to the size of the portfolio, Santander, Scotiabank and HSBC followed. After the split with Citi, Banamex was located as the sixth largest bank for credit portfolio.
Consumer credit, the leader in growth
Although companies recorded the highest amount in absolute figures, consumer credit was the best growth dynamism with 18.3%.
Consumer credit – which includes credit cards, self, personal and payroll credits – that banks lent to 1.7 billion pesos.
Within the consumer credit, the auto credit was the one that had the highest growth of 52% because last year Inbursa bought the Sofom Cetelem. With this purchase, the Bank became the second largest bank in placement of automotive financing.
The credit cards given by the bank offers financing of 637,868 million pesos, 12.9% more than in 2023.
Top, it is expected that consumer credit will continue to maintain its dynamism in this 2025 due to the reductions to the interest rate by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
“These reductions will be resulting in the credits are more accessible. Credit can be driven by these rates,” said Álvaro Vertiz, financial analyst.
