Castroism can no longer hide misery in Cuba

Un hombre hurga en un basurero de La Habana, Cuba

Havana, Cuba. – For a long time, the official Cuban propaganda struggled to hide the signs of destitution and misery that supported certain layers of the population of the island. It was said that Cuba was a socialist country that protected all citizens, and offered them at least , what is necessary to live. Even until very recently the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez boasted that no one left abandoned here. However, daily life is taking care that such a trick cannot be maintained.

The penultimate day of last year, the newspaper Havana Tribune published the article “Children, adolescents, youth: priority of each Cuban”on two situations that reflect the terrible situation, say misery, for which Cuban children are going through. It is a child who sold a bread bag in the Alamar cast, and other children who, in the immediate vicinity of the Havana Maceo Park, and under a downpour, asked the car drivers to be brought alms that passed there.

Of course, the author of the text tries to exonerate the authorities for guilt, and holds the parents of these children for the attitude of those infants. She concludes: “We do not allow unscrupulous parents to distort the work of our revolution.”

In its printed version, just one day before, the newspaper itself realized the celebration at the end of that month of a plenary session of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party in Havana, in which, among other anomalies, the appreciable amount is reported of young people disconnected from the studies, and of the severe measures applicable to parents who do not send their children to schools, which is implied that what is reported by the journalist cited above does not constitute an isolated event.

Similarly, the Havana communists made a critical analysis of the people who are engaged in the garbage dumps and containers that swarm in all the corners of the city, to those who accuse of being propagators of epidemics and diseases. They also referred to the hundreds of beggars – the regime calls them “Wandering”– That they sleep in the portals, asking for money and food everywhere. Some of them have been collected after being abandoned by their relatives, who sold their homes to emigrate.

Thus, the desperate situation that the lowest income also suffers, those that the regime qualifies as “vulnerable”, but that in reality they are already in misery, has caused the dome of power to pronounce on the matter.

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers corresponding to the month of December, Díaz-Canel, mentioning the work priorities for this 2025, referred to the attention to retirees, and those who have minimum pensions and salaries. In that sense the heir to the Castro He pointed out: “We have to be capable, even if it is not totally, to start improving the situation of retirees, who have delivered life for the revolution, and today they are in a very complex situation, and taking steps that are attenuating those situations ”

It would be convenient to know if that attention announcing the ruler will benefit all retirees and receptors of minimum wages, or will be limited to those who can consider that “they have delivered life for the revolution.”

If applicable only to the latter, it would be another sample of the ideological bias that Castroism applies in its social security policy, as well as the falsehood of the philanthropic discourse with which it usually cover up its performance.
