
According to reports from the United States Geological Service (USGS) and the Oceanic and Atmospheric National Administration (NOAA), the earthquake was recorded at 5:23 pm, time of central Mexico, with a depth of 10 kilometers in the Caribbean Sea.
For the telluric event of this magnitude, an alert of possible tsunami for Mexican Caribbean coasts was issued, as well as in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Haiti, Belize, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Cuba, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
In this context, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, reported through her social networks that in 11 municipalities of the states Civil Protection personnel were deployed to activate protocols if necessary.
