Local manufacturing exports drive moderate growth

The Directorate of Sectorial Analysis of the Vice Ministry of Economic and Social Analysis presented the “SECTORIAL PANORAMA December 2024“, highlighting an unequal growth in the Dominican manufacturing sector.

During 2024, the real value of Llocal manufacturing exports registered a significant increase of 30.0 % compared to the previous year. In contrast, manufacturing exports of free zones experienced a 1.3 % reduction compared to the January-December 2023 period.

The Document of the Dependency of the Economics, Planning and Development Minsitery (Mepyd), details that the real value of the demand for manufactured productsindicator that integrates local manufacturing exports, internal operations of manufacturing and manufacturing exports of free zones, reached 108,666.3 million pesos at the end of the year, which represents an interannual growth of 0.4 %.

In December, the interannual behavior was marked by the 30.0 % increase in local manufacturing exports. However, both exports of free zones and the real operations of local manufacturing They registered falls of 1.3 % and 0.8 %, respectively.

Demand for manufactured products

In accumulated terms, The demand for manufactured products reached 1,384,465.3 million pesos, exceeding 6.4 % the value recorded in the same period of the previous year. This performance was mainly driven by the real operations of local manufacturingwhich amounted to 982,999.2 million pesos, reflecting an interannual increase of 5.6 %.

Although with less incidence, Manufacturing exports Free zones were located at 326,595.7 million pesos, registering an increase of 6.9 % compared to January-December 2023. This growth was mainly explained by the increase in the exported value of medical instruments and cigarettes and cigarettes.

  • As to Exports of local manufacturingthese reached 74,870.3 million pesos in 2024, which represents an increase of 16.0 % compared to the previous year. This growth was mainly driven by the positive performance of cane sugar and oil oils.
