Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) issued a Tsunami alert for the coast of the Dominican Republic on Saturday night after the occurrence of an earthquake north of Honduras.
The notice, with time of 8:15 at night, details that by the Magnitude 7.6 of the earthquake, with Epicenter between the Caiman, Jamaica and Honduras Islands“The Tsunami could affect all the coastal communities of the Dominican Republic.”
In a next bulletin the entity would validate the information.
Yellow alert
In that sense, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) active its Tsunami alert protocol and with it, placed yellow alert for the entire coast of the country.
The organism director, Manuel Méndezhe called the population surrounding the coasts to protect themselves in higher places, not use beaches and boats remain in port. Also held the Dominican armed to activate their respective protocol.
Meanwhile, international agencies report that the phenomenon registered in the Caribbean felt intensity in Honduras, without so far damage.
