In a judicial ruling that marks an advance in the fight against organized crime, the Attorney General’s Office confirmed that Marlon Rafael Brito accepted his participation in the kidnapping of Luis Manuel Díaz and Cilenis Marulanda, parents of the renowned footballer Luis Fernando Díaz. The incident took place on October 28, 2023 in Barrancas, La Guajira.

The prosecution revealed that Lucho Díaz’s parents were deceived and delivered to armed men
The investigations revealed that the player’s parents were deceived with an alleged offer of political support to a relative who aspired to a seat in the Barrancas Council. On the way, they were intercepted by armed subjects and transferred to the Perijá mountain range.
“Marlon was in charge of obtaining information and coordinating the logistics to carry the victims, through deception, to the point where they were held by a group of armed men,” said the Prosecutor’s Office in an official statement.
While Cilenis Marulanda was released on the same day of kidnapping, her husband, Luis Manuel Díaz, remained in captivity for 12 days before being delivered to a humanitarian commission.
“The Prosecutor’s Office established that Brito Bolívar obtained information on the routines of the victims and participated in the structuring of the deception used to take them to the point where they were kidnapped.”
