A group of academics together with national political and social activists signed a communication demanding the liberation of the former presidential excandidate Enrique Márquez, who turns a month detained
A month after the arrest of the former presidential candidate Enrique Márquez, a group of academics, citizen activists and political leaders joined in a letter published this Friday, February 7 to demand their release.
In a joint statement, the signatories indicate that their arrest represents an unfair act and contrary to the constitutional principles that must be governed in a rule of law.
The document, entitled: “The Constitution is the path to peace. Freedom for Enrique Márquez ”, It makes visible the concern of various sectors of the country for the situation of the engineer and professor, deputy (UNT) for the Zulia State of the 2015 National Assembly.

The signatories of documentamong which are university rectors, former ministers, human rights defenders, intellectuals, political leaders and civil society representatives, require both Enrique Márquez’s “immediate” liberation and all people detained for political reasons in Venezuela.
Thus they also raise the Opening spaces for an inclusive political dialoguewith the participation of all sectors of society; and the construction of national agreements “to overcome the political, economic and social crisis that affects the country.”
A month of the unfair detention of Enrique Márquez Defender of Human Rights, the Constitution and Democracy is fulfilled. Enrique was violated his freedom for the mere fact of asking for respect to political rights, laws and popular sovereignty.

In it, they also propose the return to full respect of the National Constitution, the separation of powers and judicial independence, the guarantee of the human and political rights of Venezuelans, including freedom of expression, association and the right to elections free and fair.
“Enrique Márquez’s case is a reflection of the delicate situation facing Venezuela in human rights and democracy,” the statement said.
The signatories, including Henrique Capriles, Andrés Caleca, Henri Falcón and Juan Barreto, call on the national and international community to solidarize with this cause and support the demand for justice.
