Union firm agreement and will compensate nurses from MG victims of Covid-19

The Union of Nurses of the State of Minas Gerais (Seemg) began to receive this week documentation of professionals and relatives who are entitled to compensation related to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The indemnities were defined in Federal Law 14,128/2021, which sought to recognize the efforts of doctors, nurses and other categories that were at the front line of the global health crisis. A financial compensation of R $ 50 thousand was foreseen for every active health professional in the period that has developed sequelae caused by COVID-19 and became permanently incapacitated. The same amount should also be passed on to apportionment between the spouse and the dependents of the workers who died.

In addition, the children of those who died professionals are entitled to an additional amount corresponding to $ 10,000 multiplied by the remaining number of years for each of them to reach 21 years, or 24 years if it is attending higher education. If there is any dependent with disabilities, regardless of age, it must receive a value of at least $ 50,000.

Although the law came into force in March 2021, the delay in paying compensation led Seemg to file a lawsuit against the Union. Negotiations carried out in processing the process allowed to reach an agreement at the end of last year. In December, the Federal Regional Court of the 6th Region (TRF-6) approved the agreed terms.

In a statement, Seemg evaluates that the agreement was a category victory. The text also brought a message from the entity’s president, Anderson Rodrigues. “The work done by professionals who are gone will never be forgotten and we, as representatives of the category in Minas Gerais, we will never let their history die. If we are here today it is because they were there to take care of us the moment we needed the most. This reparation comes to honor those who honored us. ” According to data released by the union, 4,028 cases of Covid-19 were reported in Minas Gerais among nurses, of which 55 evolved the death.

The agreement establishes parameters for the monetary correction of the amounts provided for by law and sets a rite for transfers. To request the payment, SEEMG will collect the necessary documentation that includes signed adhesion term, copies of the ID card and the registration of individuals (CPF), proof of residence, proof of exercise of the activity in the period that goes from 3 February 2020 to May 22, 2022 and medical reports or examinations attesting to COVID-19. In the case of deceased nurses, the spouse and dependents need to add the death certificate.
