Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said this morning (7) that the policies the government has taken to bring the dollar to a “proper level” will have reflections in the coming weeks. The statement was made by the minister during an interview with the program City morning, from Radio City, from Caruaru (PE).
“The policy we are adopting to bring this dollar at a more appropriate level will also have a reflection on prices in the coming weeks,” the minister said during the interview.
The minister did not detail what these actions would be, but stressed that the election of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States, made the dollar value worldwide last year, which helped press food prices. However, the minister said, at this time the dollar has already begun to lose strength.
“At the end of last year, we had an incident that was the election of Trump in the United States. And that made the dollar value around the world. Now, if you follow what is happening, the dollar is losing strength. It has reached R $ 6.30 last year and today is in the house of R $ 5.77. So this also contributes to reduced food price in the medium term, ”he said.
For the minister, this year’s record record should also help reduce food prices. “From March we will start to reap this crop, which will be a record. We will reap as we never reap. And there is the ox cycle too, which is in the end. And this will all help normalize this situation,” he said .
During the interview, the minister also stated that the policy of valuing the minimum wage “is one of the ways to ensure that the worker maintains his purchasing power” and that this has been a goal of the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, After seven years of freezing the minimum wage in the governments of Michel Temer and Jair Bolsonaro.
“The minimum wage was frozen for seven years. But since President Lula took over, only two years ago, the amount that was R $ 1,100 has been readjusted to R $ 1,518. Obviously you cannot correct seven years of mismanagement in two. But I think President Lula, with his commitment to people who need the state more, has already begun a policy of valuing the minimum wage, ”said Haddad.
“We will continue to take the measures to increase minimum wages, correct the income tax table, improve salary purchasing power, lower the dollar and improve the crop to combat high prices,” said the minister.
