The Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer denounced Thursday that the regime of Nicolás Maduro still does not provide information on the whereabouts and the state of three Peruvians detained in Venezuela since September 2024.
During your participation in the Congress Foreign Relations CommissionSchialer expressed concern about the lack of responses from the Venezuelan authorities, despite the diplomatic efforts made.
The nationals, identified as Renzo Huamanchumo Castillo, Ricardo Meléndez Guerrero and Carlos Madrid Martínez, were arrested in circumstances not yet clarified.
According to the Chancellor, it is presumed that they are in a military intelligence headquarters located in Caracas, known as ‘El Helicoid’. This place, which was originally a shopping center, has been indicated by international media as a site where torture and human rights violations are committed.
Schialer explained that, due to the absence of a Peruvian diplomatic representation in Venezuela – product of Peru’s criticisms of Maduro’s re -election – Brazil’s authorities have been used as intermediaries. However, so far, no information has been obtained about the status of detainees.
“We have asked that the three Peruvians who are still missing, because a room happily appeared, they realize the Venezuelan authorities of their state and where they are located”said the chancellor.
In addition, he invoked Maduro’s government to act with “kindness, decency and humanity” to clarify the situation of detainees.
Schialer also reported that they remain in contact with friends, ecclesiastical organizations and the United Nations to closely follow the case.
