The city of Recife entered the maximum alert due to the heavy rains that fell in the city on Wednesday (5). The rains left several flooded points, overthrew trees and caused sliding barriers.
The Recife Operations Center reported, late in the morning, that the municipality came into a maximum warning state.
“The large amount of occurrences in the city, due to extreme meteorological conditions, has a maximum risk to the population and requires the installation of a broad task force to urgently restore normality.”
According to the center, in the last 24 hours more than 100 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in several weather stations of the capital: Two Brothers (118.1 mm), Compesa – Alto da Esperança (113.6 mm), Barrier (113, 6 mm), enchanted lagoon – Cohab (109.8 mm), compast – santa terezinha (104.2 mm) and Campina do Barreto (103.3 mm).
Due to the heavy rains, several roads were banned. The Recife City Hall issued a note recommending that people avoid leaving home. Classes, culture, tourism and leisure activities, as well as other non -essential activities and care were suspended.
“Due to the intensity of rainfall, classroom classes in schools, day care centers and teaching units were suspended in the afternoon and evening shifts. We recommend that private, state and federal schools and colleges adopt the same measure, ” City Hall on Social Network.
