The Ministry of Culture (MINC) published on Tuesday (4) a note expressing “repudiation” to the decision of the grammy 2025 awards ceremonial to position singer and songwriter Milton Nascimento “in a place incompatible with his trajectory, international prestige and physical needs. ”
For the ministry, the attitude “demonstrates a lack of sensitivity and respect for one of the biggest names in Brazilian music”.
Before Minc, Milton had commented on the episode in his accounts on social networks. He clarified that he was not “barred”, but that he chose to be absent from the event when he found, a day earlier, that Grammy had nominated “a place in the stands” and not “in the tables – among the main artists present there” and to Side of singer and bassist Esperanza Spalding, with whom she shares the album “Milton + Esperanza”, released in August last year and nominated for the awards.
The Brazilian artist also thanked the support, affection and concern of the people who expressed indignation with the decision of the Grammy ceremony, which took place on Sunday (2), in Los Angeles (USA).
Also on social networks, Esperanza Spalding published an image of her sitting on the main tables of the awards with poster with a photo of Milton stating that he “should be sitting there” and that the non -destination of the place “did not seem right.”
Esperanza and Milton’s album competed for the best vocal jazz album. The award, however, was granted the US singer and songwriter Samara Joy McLendon, for the album “A Joyful Holiday”
Milton Nascimento is 82 years old, released 34 albums and received several national and foreign awards, including five Grammy Awards.
