In a press release, Avelino Stanleypresident of the writers’ guild, he said that “it is necessary that they begin to face the pending issues in the sector to raise the development of Dominican culture until it is put along with the economic development that the country has at the present time” .
In that sense, he understands that to achieve it more than intellectual assumptions, managerial capacity is needed, ensuring that Roberto Ángel Salcedohas the necessary talent to direct all areas of the cultural sector for the required course.
Stanley, He also said that there are still pending issues for the writers sector, such as the need to promote a national reading plantogether with the Ministry of Education (MINERD), which can be extended to all sectors of the country and involves the authors.
In addition, it considers that it is necessary to create a mechanism to disseminate Dominican literature abroad, both in Spanish -speaking countries and in those of other languages.
However, he explained that this requires a translation program for the works of the country’s authors.
The Union of Dominican writers, also proposed the creation of the Literary Training and Research Centerthe recovery of the culture bookstore together with a space for the presentation of books and realization of gatherings, which could be in the Plaza de la Cultura, where the Mannequin restaurant operated.
Another measure they consider urgently, is to attend to the increase in remuneration for the jurors of the annual literature awards.
