If approved, this would be the first appointment made by President Claudia Sheinbaum. Some of the names that sounded to occupy the vacancy at the Bank of Mexico were that of Alejandrina Salcedo, current director of Economic Research of Banxico, and Claudia Álvarez, director of Comptroller and Risk Management in the same institution.
At present, the Banxico Governing Board operates with only four of its five members, after the departure of Irene Espinosa, whose mandate ended on December 31. If the designation of Cuadra García is confirmed by the Senate, its period would extend until the end of 2032.
