Alarming figures of corruption that does not yield in the Junín region

The Ombudsman has published the report “Corruption in figures: cases in process nationwide”, which reveals worrying data on corruption in Peru. According to this report, at the close of the second semester of 2024, the Lima region leads with 21% of cases, while Junín occupies the second place with 6%, equivalent to 382 cases.

The report highlights that municipalities are the entities with the largest number of corruption cases, representing more than 36% in Junín. Of these, 363 cases are in preliminary research.

However, the reality for Junín is more worrying because according to Nora Flores Peñaloza, anti -corruption attorney, the trend is growing: “corruption acts have not decreased; On the contrary, they are increasing. The population has begun to report more, which also contributes to the increase in cases. ” Despite the rapid interventions of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office, the problem persists due to the lack of resources and personnel. Currently, the Attorney General’s Office has a total of 3,797 cases in hands since 2015.

Flores Peñaloza, points out that, despite having recovered S/ 910.931.00 in civil repairs last year by placing ourselves in the first place nationwide, there is an alarming procedural overload in the prosecutors. “The Executive must strengthen the capacities of the Anti -Corruption System providing more personnel,” suggested the attorney. Currently, hearings are being set by 2027, which raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the judicial system.

“It is essential to increase the number of attached prosecutors to properly handle the procedural burden and ensure that the cases do not stay stagnant”Flores Peñaloza added. The lack of trained experts is also a significant obstacle in the fight against corruption.

In the Judicial District of Junín, 2,757 hearings were held until November 2024; while, in the Judicial District of Selva Central 1,044 hearings were registered. This represents a daily average of between 17 and 23 audiences and around 400 monthly audiences.

The panorama is discouraging. However, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Anti -Corruption Attorney’s Office and the entire anti -corruption subsystem continue to work to reverse this trend. The situation requires an immediate and effective response to guarantee a transparent and responsible public administration. The collaboration between institutions and the active participation of citizens are essential to face this scourge that affects the public treasury.
