Abrams, who served as a special envoy to Venezuela and Iran during the first government of Donald Trump, has been a firm opponent to any type of approach with Nicolás Maduro.
The White House insisted that Grenelll’s meeting with Maduro aimed to ensure the repatriation of migrants and the release of Americans, to advance immigration policy. In addition, having made commitments to receive deported Venezuelans from the United States.
