An action triggered on Thursday (30), involving the Federal Police and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, found at least 33 animals that were raised for trafficking . Ibama agents have already drawn fines in the amount of R $ 61,400.
Noah 2 Ark Operation aimed at an exotic animal breeding and marketing network. Among the species found was a scorpion-imperator (Pandinus Imperator), a reptile of the species Eublepharis macularius (gecko leopard), ten crab spiders, 18 snakes and three unidentified species lizards. Hundreds of insects used in the feeding of wild animals kept in captivity were also found.
There were nine search and seizure warrants, issued by the first Federal Court in Campinas, in cities of the states of São Paulo (Campinas, Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, Sorocaba, Votorantim and Rio Claro) and Rio de Janeiro (Duke of Caxias).
According to the Federal Police Station in Campinas, the investigation began from data obtained after the arrest in the act of one of a man last year for creating and illegally maintaining in captivity dozens of snakes, spiders, lizards and turtles, and market them through social networks. “Among the information gathered after the arrest was identified an extensive network of contacts of people,” says the PF.
According to Ibama, in 2024 the agency issued more than 350 infraction notices with a value of over R $ 25 million in the state of São Paulo alone.
