Brazil will host, next May, the first meeting of high authorities since the launch of the Global alliance against hunger and povertyat the end of 2024, at the G20 summit.
The meeting will have ministers of agriculture from all countries in Africa. They will discuss ways to increase agricultural productivity. The information was released by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, this Thursday (30), in Brasilia, in an interview with journalists, in the Palace of Planalto.
Purposes
“We will have a meeting to show what we have good in Brazil, take them [ministros] In the field to see what is happening good, and then to have a technical meeting, coordinated by Embrapa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for us to transfer some knowledge to our African companions and see if we fight real hunger “, said Lula.
The alliance has the adhesion of 82 countries, 24 international organizations, nine financial institutions and 34 philanthropic and non -governmental organizations. Among the objectives, the initiative aims to reach 500 million people with income transfer; 150 million children with school feeding; 200 million women and children up to six years old with health and monitoring of pregnancy and early childhood, as well as 100 million people with employment and entrepreneurship.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that between 713 million and 757 million people may have starved in 2023 – one in 11 people in the world and one in five in Africa.
