Havana/The Ministry of Finance and prices of Cuba extended until April 30 the tariff exemption to food, medicines, medical supplies and cleaning items that travelers can introduce on the island for non -commercial purposes, according to official media.
The regulations in force in 2021 have been extended several times since then and now maintains the limit of customs value – of 200 to 500 US dollars – for imports made by natural persons through shipments.
The value limit for imported items will be 500 dollars and up to 50 kilograms, in the value-peso ratio established by the General Customs of the Republic, says a resolution of finance and prices published in the Official Gazette.
It also specifies that the benefit of the exemption of the exceptional tax for the first $ 30 of the value, or its equivalent weight of 3 kilos of the shipment, will continue, and only the excess of the rate will be applied to 30%.
The Government clarified that the decision to extend it again has taken into account that the circumstances that motivated this measure persist
In the case of food, cleaning products, medications and supplies that are imported by natural persons such as aerial, sea and postcards, up to a limit of 200 dollars or a weight of up to 20 kilos, depending on the resolution.
It also indicates that for the application of these benefits, articles classified as food or toilet products.
The Government clarified that the decision to extend it again has taken into account that the circumstances that motivated this measure persist.
He also considered that he has had a “positive impact” for the population and acknowledges that it is an alternative for obtaining essential products that continue to be deficit in the country, due to the reinforcement of the United States economic embargo, the global economic crisis and difficulties in the economic recovery process.
The importation of foods and drugs without tariff limits was a measure adopted after the anti -government protests of July 11, 2021 (11J), which had among their main causes the shortage, the shortage of basic products and the prolonged cuts of electricity.
