The Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ) inaugurated, on Wednesday (29), the 1st Court specializing in elderly. The new unit was approved by the Special TJRJ agency and is aimed at devoting more attention and care to the elderly of Rio in a vulnerable situation.
The judges instituted the 1st Court specializing in elderly people by transformation of the 4th Court of Orphans and Successions of the capital. In the decision, articles of the Federal Constitution and the Elderly Statute that point to the absolute priority in the treatment of the rights and full protection of the elderly were considered articles.
2,769 lawsuits were distributed to the new Court that previously peaked in the four courts of childhood, youth and the elderly of the capital and which are the competence of the new Court. The 1st Court specializing in older people will be focused on serving elderly vulnerable and will also follow up shelters for this portion of the population.
Expansion
The TJRJ’s Institutional Policies for Operational Efficiency and Quality of Judicial Services has conducted studies on the growth of the elderly population and the need for a specific department to meet this portion of the population.
“We are watching and attentive to the aging of the population and we have seen the need to project a stick to the elderly, detached from childhood and youth courts. We project this rod as a pilot model so that we can pay more carefully jurisdiction. If necessary, other similar courts may be created, ”said the president of the TJRJ, Judge Ricardo Rodrigues Cardozo.
