Interviewed in the 2 × 3 in Health program of television channel 12, the head of the Diabetic Foot department of the Moscoso Puello hospital in this capital, Juan Vicente Méndez, and the Cuban specialist in angiology and vascular surgery Javier Borroto released details of the disease and use of Heberprot-P.
Méndez explained the incidence of the disease among Dominicans and how the rate of patients grew to such an extent that about a million and a half people suffer from it and many do not know they have it.
Of all of them, he said, between 15 and 17 percent debut with the diabetic foot, reaching stages which, if not treated, end in amputations, but thanks to the program of attention to that disease and the use of Cuban medicine, they managed to be reduced.
Likewise, the specialist revealed that in the two hospitals, in which the aforementioned drug was applied, that is, Moscoso and Cabral y Báez in the Santiago province, 619 patients were treated in two years with satisfactory results.
For his part, Borroto, in addition to offering details about the care plan for these patients and the use of the drug in the largest of the Antilles, said that the number of people treated arises from about 150 seen daily in the consultations.
In these reviews they are classified and it is defined whether they can pass the treatment or not.
He also pointed out that there are not a few people who abandon care for various reasons, among them, because they live very far away or lack the resources for transfers.
Finally, the island’s advisor spoke about the benefits of medicine and how the results obtained in the world support its effectiveness.
Heberprot-P, which benefited more than 300,000 patients worldwide, is registered in 23 countries, including Russia, Kuwait, Ukraine, Argentina, Turkey, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mongolia and Colombia.
It is used for the healing of complex wounds, ischemic ulcers and those resulting from the diabetic foot.
