Cyber ​​attacks to financial institutions record the highest amount in 3 years

The attack on the sofip occurred last March and it was a violation of the transfers service; The cost of this event cost the company 124.11 million pesos and had no cost for customers.

Last April, a bank suffered a computer violation through a malicious ransomware code called Akira. The cost of this attack was 16.38 million pesos, according to Banxico.

There were two more attacks against banks in November and last December, which consisted of attacks on the transfers service. So far it has not been reported how much money this incident cost to the institutions.

Last September, the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) had reported that in 2024 15 attacks had accumulated against the financial system although it did not give details of the amounts they had represented for financial institutions.

The regulatory entity has made calls for all companies that have suffered cyber attacks to let these attacks on authority know in order to avoid greater damage.
