In a historic and significant designation for the Nariño region, Pope Francis has appointed the Nariñense priest, Father Jaime Alberto Cabrera Arcos, such as the new bishop of the Diocese of Garzón, Huila. This news, received with great joy, ends three years of waiting for the Diocese of Garzón, who had been grazing as an apostolic administrator by Monsignor Miguel Fernando González Mariño.
The new elected bishop, originally from Sandoná, Nariño, has dedicated more than two decades to pastoral and educational service. With a solid academic training, Father Jaime Alberto has a degree in Philosophy and Theology and has obtained a Master in Education. Throughout his career, he has played important roles, standing out as the rector of the Southern Catholic University Foundation and professor of the seminar Major Sacred Hearts, among others. In addition, he was responsible for the Priestly Training House for Professionals Christ Master in Pasto, a position he held until the date of his appointment.
Pope Francis has entrusted Father Cabrera Arcos to spiritually guide the Catholic community of Garzón, a task that assumes with humility and commitment. Since his priestly ordination in 1994, Father Jaime has worked tirelessly in various parishes, showing a deep love for his vocation and a special concern for religious formation.
