The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, expressed his rejection of the decree of the National Government that postpon $ 12 billion from the 2025 budget, affecting strategic works such as the Metro, Transmilenio and the Regiotram of the West.
“Bogotá’s progress is not stopped. Despite the decree of the government through which the financing of the Nation for the key projects of the city, in particular the subway, we will not allow our city to stop, ”said Galán, who reiterated that Bogotá will continue with his plans of development despite difficulties.
The president criticized that this decision was not concerted or previously informed to the mayor’s office.
“Despite our disposition to dialogue, this postponement was not arranged or anyone from the national government communicated with us. The National Government’s commitment to the Metro arises from a contract signed in 2017; Therefore, it did not arise in 2024 nor can it depend on a 2024 financing law. The Metro has more than 46% progress, it is not late, and until now Bogotá has put three times more resources than the nation, ”he emphasized.
