The secretary of Brazilian communities abroad and consular and legal affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Márcia Loureiro, met on the afternoon of Monday (27), in Brasilia, with the in charge of business of the US embassy in Brazil, Gabriel Escobar, to deal with the deportation of Brazilians last weekend.

The call for Itamaraty Palace is a diplomatic gesture that expresses discontent from one country with another. The meeting was confirmed to the Brazil agency for sources of the Brazilian government and also by US diplomacy.
According to the reports, during the meeting, Itamaraty requested clarification from the US government about the treatment of Brazilians deported on a flight chartered by the United States, who arrived in the country last Friday (24).
Brazilian citizens were detained in the United States because they did not have the required immigration documentation, and claimed that during the trip they remained handcuffed, were beaten and had a bathroom deprivation and food. Brazil and the US have a prevailing agreement of deportation, but the treaty provides for decent and humanitarian treatment, which did not occur.
After a technical scale in Manaus, the Brazilian government intervened in the situation, at the initiative of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, determining the retreat from handcuffsproviding humanitarian assistance and sending a plane from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to seek the deported nationals and send them to the expected final destination, Belo Horizonte. The group landed in the capital of Minas Gerais on Saturday (25).
This was the first wave of Brazilians deported since the inauguration of President Donald Trump, who promised zero tolerance with illegal immigration in the country. Gabriel Escobar is currently the representative of American diplomacy in Brazil, after the departure of the ambassador Elizabeth Bagley, appointed by Joe Biden’s previous government, but left the post in the Brazilian capital.
In the report, the US embassy confirmed the realization of what it called a “technical meeting” with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but gave no details about what was talked to the meeting.
