The Catholic University of Quito defeated this Wednesday by 2-0 to Bolivar of La Paz and with the 1-1 tie that they achieved in the first leg, they qualified for the third preliminary phase of the Libertadores Cup, where he will face The Strongest, also from Bolivia. The goals of the Catholic triumph were from Santiago Zamora, in the 11th minute, and from the Panamanian striker Ismael Díaz, at 36.
The Ecuadorian team came into the game with a simple, practical and fast proposal, with which it dismantled the visitor’s system, which accumulated players in the midfield and from there tried to put together offensive plays, which did not work out against the local defense.
Universidad Católica quickly sought to open the scoring and a cross and low shot from Panamanian Díaz crashed into the left post, in the 6th minute.
A fast local counterattack, which was born after a corner kick from Bolívar, allowed José Carabalí to come out with a dominated ball and deliver a pass to Zamora, who with a violent shot from the edge of the area defeated goalkeeper Rubén Cordano, in the 11th minute. After the goal, La Academia went to a draw, but lacked precision and opportunism to take advantage of the scoring chances generated.
The Camaratta squad, as Universidad Católica is also called, waited until the 36th minute to score the second goal, thanks to Panamanian Díaz, who beat the defenders by jumping and hitting the visiting goal with an accurate header.
After the second goal, Bolívar took greater precautions and tried to approach the goal defended by Ecuadorian goalkeeper Darwin Cuero, a debutant in the Libertadores, who had few demands. The game was played for much of the second half in the midst of persistent rain.
