The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners published a statement in which relatives of detainees in Carabobo, in the context of post-election protests, demanded that Nicolás Maduro review the cases of their relatives for their immediate absolute freedom.
Relatives of detainees in the context of post-election protests in the state of Carabobo demanded the freedom of their relatives.
In a release published this Saturday, January 25, by the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners, they stated that the detainees, most of them minors, “are boys who did not participate” in the demonstrations.
The relatives assured that those arrested are “boys who were coming from work, others coming or going to any errand, where they were unjustly detained and in many cases there were no protests and they were judged as such.”
They claimed that it has been six months of “unjust” detention. They highlighted the fact that many of the detainees are students, athletes with unfinished careers and plans. While others are “parents who depend on them.”
They demanded that Nicolás Maduro review his cases for his immediate absolute freedom. “They are boys who arrived at said prison healthy, without any pathology, and now they are sick fearing for their lives,” they added in the statement.

The NGO Foro Penal registered until January 20, a total of 1,601 people arrested for political reasons, 86 less than the previous week, when it counted 1,687, most of them detained after the presidential elections on July 28.
