Specialists from the Ministries of Science Technology and Environment and Interior together with Public Health and the Directorate of Education investigate the causes of the fact.

Gas escape It transcended During the morning of this January 24, after several students experienced dizziness, lack of air and redness.

At the time of the emergency, the institution had 926 students and 65 workers. At first, it was reported that eight of them had been transferred to the health center; However, it was later found that those affected amounted to almost four times that figure.

Student Testimonies and Medical Team

Several students offered their testimonies to Girón about what happened: “I had to go with the group head to see the Physics Methodologist (…). When we go down we start with a lot of burning and feel the same, as if burning us, ”said student Mariam Quintas Arias, currently hospitalized in intermediate therapy.

For her part, Dr. Lianeisy Claro Moya, responsible for the same room, explained: “There are four girls between 15 and 16 years. They are all stable, conscious, well awake, without respiratory distress (…). They arrived with the same symptoms: dryness in the throat, stinging, itching in the throat, some with fatigue, lack of air and fainting sensation. (…) They put their hydrocortisone and are oxygen. ”

Meanwhile, in the respiratory service led by the specialist Yaima Rodríguez Lazo were attending around 12 patients: “Seven with oxygenation and five without it. So far they are asymptomatic, saturating well, with good appearance (…). Upon arriving at the service, what they presented was a sensation of drowning, respiratory distress, two only had bronchial rales. ”

The students of the students, meanwhile, alluded to the moments of anguish lived. Yisel Almeida Sánchez, the mother of one of those affected, described: “She called me, she told me that she had aspired and became nervous, she told me she couldn’t breathe. (…) When we arrived there were already the ambulances and the police doing their job. We came to him [hospital] Pediatric where attention was very quickly. ”
