José Arista, head of the MEF, is optimistic by guaranteeing economic growth close to 3% for this year and interest rates of 5% or 6% in the future thanks to private investment.
However, reaching this goal will be a titanic task with a bureaucracy that suffocates formal businessmen and looks for a thousand ways to “get” more money from them. All to support a public budget of more than S/253 billion that prioritizes spending on payroll payments and the rescue of bankrupt companies like Petroperú, instead of managing more investments.
In 2025 we will have another million-dollar budget that will give us a thousand examples of bad investment, waste, corruption and return of funds.
And to complete this picture full of inconsistencies, the public investment budget will be reduced by 18%, with an infrastructure gap of more than US$159 billion in all basic services.
Thus, taxpayers contemplate a structural problem that is getting worse. As stated by José Ignacio Beteta, president of the Peruvian Taxpayers Association, “the collection machine works perfectly only to squeeze those who already contribute, while looking the other way when it comes to informality or illegality, and is complicit with a bureaucratic state. that does not invest our money properly.”
Finally, the most basic questions fall flat: revenue increases, the budget increases, but does the taxpayer feel safer when going out? Do they trust the public health system?
