The civil association The Trevor Project reported that requests for crisis care for LGBT+ youth in the United States increased 33 percent on the day of the inauguration of the president of that country, Donald Trump.

This increase was preceded by the record increase by 700 percent of requests for crisis services one day after the United States presidential elections, in November 2024.

Jaymes Black, executive director of The Trevor Project in that country, stated that regardless of the current administration’s position or political beliefs, the lives of LGBT+ youth are at risk, and immediate action must be taken to support them. Suicide prevention transcends politics. We are sounding the alert to legislators, community leaders and adults who care about the health and survival of youth in their communities: they must stop the political attack on LGBT+ youth, particularly transgender and non-binary youth.

Edurne Balmori, executive director of The Trevor Project Mexico, recalled that the organization will continue working in Mexico and the United States to have an environment safe and peaceful that LGBT+ youth deserve to live fully.
