The Democratic Action party, led by Henry Ramos Allup, reported this Wednesday, January 22, that it had unanimously approved the exclusion from the governor of Barinas, Sergio Garrido and councilor José Luis Vargas for recognizing Nicolás Maduro

The social democratic party of Venezuela Democratic Action (AD), which calls itself in resistance, reported this Wednesday, January 22, that it had unanimously approved the exclusion of the governor of Barinas, Sergio Garrido and the councilor of Baruta, José Luis Vargas for recognizing Nicolás Maduro.

“Today at a meeting of the National Directorate we reported that the self-exclusion of Sergio Garrido, governor of Barinas and José Luis Vargas, councilor of Baruta, was unanimously approved, under the rules of the party’s statutes. In AD there is political leadership at the service of the country,” the party published in X.

The AD board, led by Henry Ramos Allup, decided to remove both politicians from its ranks, for recognizing Maduro as the winner of the presidential elections on July 28. The National Electoral Council did not show the minutes that validated Maduro’s victorywhich has led different sectors of Venezuelan society, as well as the international community, to establish a position regarding the political crisis in Venezuela. The results obtained by the opposition indicate that Edmundo González won with 7,443,584 votes (67%), compared to Maduro 3,385,155 votes (30%).

Sergio Garrido, 57, took up the candidacy of the unitary platform in December 2021 to confront the government of Nicolás Maduro in Barinas, where former president Hugo Chávez was born. The leader then managed to forcefully win the governorship of the entity, after Freddy Superlano was disqualified. In the 1980s, he began to join the Democratic Action Party at an early age.

Already in 2022, Garrido had recognized Maduro in the face of the dilemma over the interim government of Juan Guaidó, recognized since January 2019 as president of Venezuela by several countries. “Nicolás Maduro is the president, whether we want it or not. Juan Guaidó is the president in charge that some countries in the world recognize, but the truth is that we have to step on the ground, and reality tells me that Nicolás Maduro is the president who is in office. And I cannot ignore it,” he said in January 2022.
