A company that operates in Três Rios, a municipality in the center-south of Rio de Janeiro, about 120 kilometers from the city of Rio de Janeiro, is suspected of reselling meat that was found spoiled during the floods that devastated Rio Grande do Sul in May 2024 .
Civil police officers from the Consumer Police Station carried out Operation Carne Fraca investigations this Wednesday (22) and arrested a person in the act. According to investigators, the meat ended up being submerged.
Search and seizure warrants were also executed at addresses linked to those suspected of participating in the gang that sold meat unfit for consumption.

According to the investigation, which had the support of the Consumer Police of Rio Grande do Sul, in May and June the company’s partners took advantage of the tragedy to acquire 800 tons of beef that had been submerged “for many days” in Porto Alegre. .
They claimed that the intention was to manufacture animal feed. However, the investigation discovered that the inappropriate product had another destination. The meat was sold to other companies. The movement caused the group to make a profit “of more than 1,000%”, stated the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, “putting consumers across Brazil at risk”.
Those under investigation may be held liable for the crimes of criminal association, reception, adulteration and corruption of food, which cover the entire country.
