Dozens of people came to the Embassy of Russia in Montevideo, on Bulevar España Avenue, this Wednesday, to ask for a ceasefire and support the Ukrainian people. They called to attend yellow flowers and carnationsfor human rights.
“Assassins, assassins”, “peace” or “Murderer Putin” was heard by the protesters, referring to the Russian authorities. In addition, they accompanied with songs and horns, on the avenue.

The embassy remained with its lights off and a quiet police guard near the door.
With flags and yellow flowers, dozens of people demonstrated late on Wednesday afternoon.

“Where I was born they broke everything, I see it on television (…) It gives me great anguish,” said Olga Duszka, an 86-year-old Ukrainian who has lived in Uruguay since she was a child, and came to the demonstration in a wheelchair accompanied by relatives.

“He came escaping from a war and now he is living the end of his life with another,” his grandson, Juan Pablo dos Santos, told AFP, visibly moved in the middle of the crowd.

They had self-convened through social networks. Members of the Ukrainian community and supporters participated.
The Uruguayan government has expressed both at the UN and at the OAS its “strong condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
