The measure, which was signed this Monday by President Donald Trump as part of a series of executive orders, has already launched the Cuban propaganda system.

Díaz-Canel also described this action as part of Washington’s continued “economic siege” against the Island. “It is not surprising. “Its objective is to continue strengthening the cruel economic war against Cuba for the purposes of domination,” he said. Likewise, he related these policies to the increase in the migratory flow of Cubans to the United States.
“The result of the extreme economic siege measures imposed by Trump has been to cause shortages in our people, and a significant increase in the migratory flow from Cuba to the United States,” declared the president.
This Tuesday, the official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the newspaper Granma, echoed of Díaz-Canel’s statements, who also described the measure as “an act of mockery and abuse” that “confirms the discredit of the lists and unilateral coercion mechanisms of the US Government.”
The Cuban leader also insisted, with his usual triumphalist spirit, that “the legitimate and noble cause of our people will prevail, and will once again win.”
The White House order that annuls the certification of Cuba as free of support for international terrorism is part of a series of initial rescissions classified by the current US Administration as “harmful” and “illegal.” In the official text released by the White House, it is noted that the policies of his predecessor, Joe Biden, had “embedded deeply unpopular and radical practices” in federal agencies, and that the new administration will seek to “restore common sense in the Government.” Federal”.

Trump’s decision this Monday, his first day in the White House (for the second time), also reinstates the NSPM-5 (list of restricted entities), which had already been in force during the first term of the now re-elected president. With this action, the economic, financial and commercial restrictions against Havana are tightened.
A turnaround compared to the previous week
Last week, the Island was removed from the list of State sponsors of terrorism by then-President Joe Biden, who justified Cuba’s removal from the list by arguing that “it has not provided any support to international terrorism during the previous six months and has given guarantees that it will not support acts of international terrorism in the future.”
At that time, the Cuban Government promised to release 553 prisoners “punished for various crimes,” although it did not specify whether they were political prisoners. The island’s authorities presented this decision as an example of the “just and humanitarian nature of the penal and penitentiary systems” in force in the country.
Cuba was first included on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism in 1982. After a series of diplomatic approaches during the Barack Obama Administration, it was removed from that list in 2015. Then, Donald Trump included it again in January 2021, days before ceding power to Joe Biden, a situation that remained until the beginning of 2025, when the outgoing administration decided to reverse said classification.
Now, the new US president has resumed his hard line by justifying his position with the need to “repair” US institutions and the US economy.
