Morena and opposition ask for an agreement for migrants after Trump's decrees

The president of the Permanent Commission, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, expressed the concern of the Mexican Congress about these new policies that are also coming in matters of the environment, economy and security.

“We agree on coordination, on communication, on collaboration with the United States government, but under no circumstances are we willing to give up a single millimeter of our sovereignty and our national independence,” he warned.

“I close with a call particularly to the opposition to build this national agreement and this coincidence in the defense of our people, our independence and our sovereignty,” he added.

In a session of the Permanent Commission, the parliamentary groups expressed themselves open to agreeing on unity, but clarified the type of agreement that is required.

For the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Senator Néstor Camarillo said yes to Morena’s call, but asked that resources be used to support migrants.

“The country will always come first. Don’t be confused, we continue to see that things are not going well, but today Mexico needs us united, teaming up and making a single front,” he noted.

PAN and MC ask for an agreement with the US on security and weapons

For National Action (PAN), Senator Ricardo Anaya spoke to Morena regarding the need to confront the Trump government together.

“Urgently, let’s put on the table a treaty with the same formality, just as robust but in terms of security. Nothing more than that implies that the 4T government leaves aside this absurd idea of hugs, not bullets. It implies assuming with strength and determination that we are going to combat criminal groups,” he added.

This treaty would state “clearly that we reject any unilateral intervention, any violation of our sovereignty, that in a tone of cooperation and agreement we add all the capabilities of the Mexican and American State to solve a common problem and hit organized crime where it hurts most.” , in their finances,” he added.

“Mexico must put on the table the most ambitious plan for work permits and visas in the bilateral relationship. (…) We reaffirm that the country comes first and that in the face of any attempt that involves violating our sovereignty or affecting the rights of our countrymen and women, the PAN will always be there,” said Senator Anaya.

For his part, PAN deputy Luis Agustín Rodríguez Torres asserted the coincidence that progress must be made in the agreements: “The PAN does not ignore the call for unity by those who have been dividing Mexico for six years.”
