On the day that the third report from Grupo Vita, created by the Catholic Church to monitor situations of sexual abuse within the institution, will be released, the investigation of similar cases is dragging on in Italy.
In the diocese of Bolzano Brixen alone, 67 cases of sexual abuse were reported. Based on this number, the investigation will extend until 1964, the year in which the Italian diocese was created.
The group created by the Catholic Church to monitor situations of sexual abuse in the institution presents, this Tuesday (21), the third activity report. Grupo Vita has already received 118 complaints and 61 requests for financial compensation.
The group is still receiving new complaints, and requests must be submitted by March 31 of this year. Complaints can also be made to the diocesan committees for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults.
After receiving the complaints, “an evaluation committee will determine the amounts of compensation to be awarded”.
The bishops expect the compensation processes to be completed by the end of 2025.
