Comex Peru: "The government is losing the battle against insecurity"

ComexPeru spoke about the increase in crime in our country after the attack on the Trujillo Prosecutor’s Office headquarters and the murder of a journalist. The institution requested that the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, be changed.

Below is the statement:

At ComexPerú we urge the President of the Republic, Mrs. Dina Boluarte, to make drastic changes that combat insecurity to execute a clear strategy to fight organized crime and illegal economies. Providing security is the basic and essential service that the Government must provide. If you are not able to do it, you have failed. Clearly, the Minister of the Interior is not up to the task.

We strongly condemn the attack on the headquarters of the Public Ministry in the city of Trujillo, the murder of a journalist in Ica, as well as the attacks that occurred a few days ago in Pataz. The State cannot afford to lose the fight against the illegal economies that co-govern the country. These attacks are clear evidence that the State of Emergency has not worked and urgent and timely actions are needed to prevent the lives of Peruvians from being affected by terror.

The number one point on its agenda must be for the Ministry of the Interior to establish a clear strategy to combat organized crime and illegal economies. Furthermore, the country urgently needs reform to strengthen key institutions that protect our security, such as the Peruvian National Police, the Public Ministry and the Judiciary.

It is essential that the central government acts quickly and effectively, since we are already late. We cannot allow a new attack to occur anywhere in the national territory. If the authorities are not capable of fulfilling their essential role, they must step aside.
