The resolution was taken at an assembly held in the Las Toscas resort, where the legislator’s commitment to the department was highlighted.
Cervini expressed the need to work on a transformation that allows us to enhance the department’s strengths and reverse some aspects that, in his opinion, have been left behind. “Canelones needs to have a change of focus. Cannelloni can be better. I am not saying that everything in Canelones is bad and that Canelones is in a deplorable situation. What I’m saying is, there are things that are good and there are other things that can be greatly improved,” he said.
The deputy focused on the tourism sector, which he described as one of the most neglected areas of the current administration. “As a Canarian, it makes you sad when you see, for example, the tourism sector in ruins, when Atlántida was the second resort in Uruguay for a long time. I believe that the Municipality has to do and has to do a lot to recover this tourism proposal that generates work and generates quality work for the Canarians,” he stated.
In addition, Cervini highlighted the low intake of international tourism in the department, a situation that he considers worrying. “It cannot be that today in Uruguay only 3% of the international tourism that enters remains in Canelones,” he emphasized, raising the need for more effective policies to strengthen tourism activity as a driver of local development.
The Colorado party seeks to consolidate the Republican Coalition as a competitive alternative in Canelones, facing the Frente Amplio, which has governed the department since 2010.
