Valencia qualifies for the final of the Spanish King’s Cup

Valencia defeated Athletic Club today by the minimum and became the first finalist of the Copa del Rey of Spanish football, whose title discussion is agreed for next April 23.

Portuguese winger Gonzalo Guedes scored the winning goal in the 43rd minute with a shot outside the box that slipped into the visiting goal’s corner.

Both teams had drawn the first leg in Bilbao 1-1 last month and with Wednesday’s result the aggregate scoreline favored Valencia 2-1.

The “ché” team is now waiting for its rival in the final of the contest dedicated to the Spanish monarch, which will be defined tomorrow when Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis cross arms for the second time.

In the previous duel, the Sevillan club won 2-1 playing as a visitor, so they will have home court advantage in their favor in Thursday’s duel.

With the elimination of Athletic, none of the finalists of the last edition will dispute the title again, since Barcelona, current champion, was eliminated in the round of 16, precisely at the hands of the Basque team.
