Trump Administration Cancels CBP One Program

The CBP One program has been canceled. It is estimated that approximately 270,000 emigrants are waiting to enter the United States on the Mexican side of the border in hopes of obtaining an appointment to enter the United States.

Both Trump and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, his nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, promised to close CBP One “on Day 1.”

Mexico will transport migrants with a “CBP One” appointment from its southern border

The app allows migrants in Mexico to request a time to be processed by U.S. immigration officials at border entry points, also known as ports of entry.

The Biden administration established the process as part of an effort to discourage illegal immigration by offering migrants legal channels to enter the United States.

People admitted to the United States under the system can apply for work permits as well as asylum in immigration courts.

As of Jan. 16, nearly 919,000 migrants had been authorized to enter the country through the CBP One app, which was established in January 2023, according to an internal government report. Wait times stretched for months due to to high demand.
